Zusammenfassung. Basierend auf einer integrativen (human-)ökologischen Perspektive strebt der Ansatz StadtGesundheit danach, Public Health in Theorie und Praxis konkret für die Gesundheit städtischer Bevölkerungen anzuwenden. Hier geht es sowohl um Erkenntnisse unter dem Leitprinzip Blickfelderweiterung als auch um Handlung, insbesondere im Sinne eines Brückenbaus. In Bezug auf Transdisziplinarität lassen sich hier neue zivilgesellschaftliche Arbeitsformen entwickeln. Der Beitrag erläutert die Entstehungszusammenhänge, Anwendungsfelder, Kernaufgaben und Perspektiven / [Based on DeepL:] Summary. Based on an integrative (human) ecological perspective, the Urban Health approach aims to apply public health theory and practice specifically to the health of urban populations. This involves both: (i) insights gained under the guiding principle of broadening perspectives and (ii) action, particularly in the sense of bridge building. In terms of transdisciplinarity, new forms of civil society work can be developed here. The article explains the background to its development, fields of application, core tasks, and perspectives.

Text: … Will der Künstler … wesentliche Fragen des Seins aufwerfen? Woher kommen wir als Menschheit? Wohin gehen wir? … Das Projekt soll vor allem verdeutlichen, dass die Bochumer Dutzende von Muttersprachen sprechen. Bei der Einweihung der Woher-wohin-Installation … erklärte der in Essen ansässige Künstler: Einerseits ist das der Bezug zum Bahnhof, zum An- und Abreisen, andererseits hat es eine philosophische und religiöse Variante. Es verweist aber auch auf Migranten und erfüllt damit die politische Dimension. Christoph Hildebrand hatte sich von der Stadtverwaltung eine Statistik mit den 30 häufigsten Herkunftssprachen der Bochumer Wohnbevölkerung geben lassen. Dann ließ er sich die beiden Wörter wohin und woher in diese Sprachen übersetzen … von in der Stadt arbeitenden Muttersprachlern. Within the framework of the research program “City of the Future – Healthy and sustainable metropolises”, Prof. Heike Köckler (University of Applied Sciences, Bochum, and Academy for Spatial Research and Planning/ARL) had invited Prof. Jo Ivey Boufford (New York University/School of Global Public Health, and International Society for Urban Health/ISUH) to give a guest lecture on the Health Campus Bochum and to locally collect impressions from urban and regional health activities.

The visit took place 15-16 October 2025 in Bochum and Witten. On behalf of the research program’s advisory board, Heike Köckler (Bochum) and Rainer Fehr (Bielefeld/Hamburg) welcomed the guest. Dr. Boufford’s guest lecture “Urban Health: A Global Perspective” was preceded by visits to the city of Witten and to the NRW Landesamt für Gesundheit und Arbeitsschutz / NRW State Office for Health and Occupational Safety (LfGA). In Witten, on the occasion of this visit, Klaus Völkel as coordinator of “Healthy City Witten” had convened a group representing a variety of urban health activities. This involves “Health in All Policies” as well as the sustainability – health nexus. The meeting took place in the “B63” centre for urban culture. In the LfGA, Dr.s Odile Mekel and Thomas Claßen from the Division Health literacy and community health promotion presented on “Implementing Health in Planning in North Rhine-Westphalia – a long way to go”. Hoffmann (1776–1822) war Schriftsteller, Komponist, Zeichner, Karikaturist und ausgebildeter Jurist … der wohl bekannteste Erzähler der deutschen Romantik … gab der Kunst des Erzählens eine neue Wendung. Seine Literatur, die Reales und Fantastisches zusammenführt …, ist zugleich Verzauberung und Entzauberung der Welt. Indem Hoffmann märchenhafte Elemente mit scharfen Diagnosen seiner Gegenwart verband, traf er … den Nerv seiner Zeit. Sein Blick auf Kunst, Natur und Technik, seine Schilderung der Schrecken und Verheißungen der Zivilisation, hat uns auch heute noch viel zu sagen. Das Bamberger Haus am heutigen Schillerplatz 26, in dem Hoffmann von 1809 bis 1813 lebte, … als einzige Wohnstätte des an vielen Orten tätigen Künstlers erhalten. … Aktuell wird das … Wohnhaus saniert. Nach der Wiedereröffnung wird das Museum eine neue Dauerausstellung sowie Wechselausstellungen zu E.T.A. Hoffmanns Werk und zur Welt der Romantik bieten.
