The second edition of the book “Regulatory Toxicology” (eds.: Franz-Xaver Reichl, Michael Schwenk), publisher: Springer International Publishing, has come out now in print, too (XXIX + 1594 pages).

The chapter “Probabilistic methods” was authored by Odile Mekel (LZG.NRW) and Rainer Fehr.

Jointly organized by groups from the Universität Bielefeld, Hafencity Universität Hamburg and Universitätskrankenhaus Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE), a (German-language) conference on Sustainable Urban Health will be held in Hamburg, 17-18 Nov 2021 / Als gemeinsame Veranstaltung von Universität Bielefeld, Hafencity Universität Hamburg und Universitätskrankenhaus Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE) findet eine (deutschsprachige) Konferenz zu Nachhaltiger StadtGesundheit am 17.-18.11.2021 in Hamburg statt.

This „tandem“ meeting is rooted in two different traditions: (i) the ”Hamburg Symposia for regional health care”, https://www.hamburg-symposium.com/, and (ii) the conference series “City of the future – healthy and sustainable metropolises”, www.urban-health.de / Diese „Tandem“-Veranstaltung wurzelt in zwei verschiedenen Traditionen: (i) in den Hamburger Symposien für regionale Gesundheitsversorgung, https://www.hamburg-symposium.com/, und (ii) in der Konferenzserie “Stadt der Zukunft – Gesunde und nachhaltige Metropolen”, www.stadt-und-gesundheit.de.

As an intermediate for the upcoming conference, an online event took place on 27 Oct 2020. The (German-language) documentation includes transliterations, presentations, video clips, and pictures / Als Zwischenschritt für die kommende Konferenz erfolgte am 27.10.2021 eine Online-Veranstaltung. For the upcoming conference, the leading question is: How can we work, in urban (and rural) neighborhoods, towards a “healthy” future for all, in accordance with social equity and within planetary boundaries? / Die Leitfrage lautete: Wie lässt sich in Stadt (und Land), in Einklang mit sozialen Zielen und planetaren Grenzen, an einer „gesunden“ Zukunft für alle Menschen arbeiten?

On 1-2 July 2021, the Academy for Territorial Development in the Leibniz Association (ARL) held its annual Congress (online) “In the Sign of the Pandemic – Spatial Development between Uncertainty and Resilience” / Am 1.–2. Juli 2021 veranstaltete die Akademie für Raumentwicklung in der Leibniz-Gemeinschaft (ARL) ihren (Online-)Jahreskongress „Im Zeichen der Pandemie – Raumentwicklung zwischen Unsicherheit und Resilienz“, www.arl-net.de/de/arl-kongress-2021.

Parallel workshops included the following / Zu den parallelen Fachsitzungen gehörten u.a.:

Topics of the workshop „Public Health and health infrastructures“: model-based small-area analysis of Corona incidence; new health infrastructures in the Corona pandemic in Hesse; and city quarters’ resilience in the pandemic / Themen der Fachsitzung „Öffentliche Gesundheit und Gesundheitsinfrastrukturen”: Modellgestützte kleinräumige Analyse des Corona-Infektionsgeschehens; Neue Gesundheits-Infrastrukturen in der Corona-Pandemie in Hessen; Resilienz von Stadtquartieren in der Pandemie.

The third edition of the European Public Health Week (EUPHW, https://eupha.org/euphw), organized by the European Public Health Organization (EUPHA, https://eupha.org) started two days ago. It includes >200 events, organised by 40 countries in 19 languages. The aims are to “Make the case for public health and a more inclusive society across Europe; Raise awareness […] on five specific public health themes […]; Create trust and innovative ways of collaboration among all professionals contributing to public health at local, national, regional and European level.

The themes for the 2021 edition are: Communicating science and health; New challenges in mental health; Your local community; All for one health; Leaving no one behind.

Theme: Your local community (19 May 2021)

Includes, among others: Webinar “Local spaces and places – How healthy is your city?”; Session “Transferring European Good Practices locally: SEEEPHI Project”; and Photo elicitation community project.

  • As part of the EPH Week 2021, EUPHA’s Urban Public Health section shares a photographic gallery, concerning influences on health in local communities.
  • The photos, contributed by section members, relate to a range of communities across Europe and beyond and are accompanied by explanations of where the contributor feels it impacts on the health of the community.
  • 26 communities: Germany (Hamburg; and Ruhr Metropolitan region), Greece (1 community), Hungary (1), Italy (1), The Netherlands (1), Nigeria (1 community – 5 topics), Norway (1 community), Portugal (2), Sierra Leone (1), Spain (12), United Kingdom (3).
