Second visit to the special exhibition “Welcome to the Anthropocene – Our responsibility for the planetary future” (5 Dec 2014 – 31 Jan 2016) in the German Museum [of Science and Technology] / Zweiter Besuch der Sonderausstellung “Willkommen im Anthropozän – Unsere Verantwortung für die Zukunft der Erde” (5.12.14 bis 31.1.16) im Deutschen Museum.

Among other traces, the murals in Bremen’s train station and especially the Overseas Museum give testimony to Bremen’s colonial past / In Bremen bezeugen u.a. Wandgemälde in der Bahnhofshalle sowie vor allem das Überseemuseum die koloniale Vergangenheit.

As it happens, today’s newspaper (taz.de) reports that the city state government of Bremen decided to systematically revisit the colonial history and to develop a concept of remembrance / Zufällig am heutigen Besuchstag berichtet die taz von der Absicht der rot-grünen Landesregierung, Bremens koloniales Erbe systematisch aufzuarbeiten und ein Konzept für Erinnerungskultur zu entwickeln

“First gas station of the world”: In August 1888, on the first ever automotive long-distance trip, Bertha Benz received fresh supply of ligroin (light gasoline) from the Wiesloch pharmacy which thus can be seen as the world’s first gas station (Monument: Pit Elsasser) / “Erste Tankstelle der Welt”: Im August 1888 auf der ersten Fernfahrt der Automobilgeschichte erhielt Bertha Benz den benötigten Nachschub an Ligroin (Leichtbenzin) von der Wieslocher Stadt-Apotheke, die sich dadurch als erste Tankstelle der Welt ansehen lässt (Denkmal: Pit Elsasser)

Following several precursors: “Ludwigseisenbahn”, the first railroad system with a steam locomotive in Germany, was inaugurated in 1835 with a tour from Nürnberg to Fürth / Nach Vorläufern: “Ludwigseisenbahn” wurde als erste Eisenbahn mit Dampflokomotiven in Deutschland im Jahre 1835 mit einer Fahrt von Nürnberg nach Fürth offiziell eröffnet
