In his presentation, U.Schneidewind explained the iconic diagram of the new report “Humanity on the move: Unlocking the transformative power of cities” of the German Advisory Council on Global Change (WBGU); the model comprises three layers: Forms (dominant global settlement patterns: mature, planned, informal), Forces (drivers: time, power, need), and Values (“normative compass”: Eigenart, inclusion, natural life-support systems) (WBGU English summary) / In seiner Präsentation erläuterte U. The GHUP association features a range of sections, e.g. on: Housing & Health; Bioaerosols; Water Hygiene; Climate Change & Health. The presentation suggests that GHUP including sections explore which topics might be of common interest for both the field of Hygiene and the field of Urban Health. The newly formed Urban Health section can facilitate such exploration / Die GHUP hat eine Reihe von Ausschüssen zu Themen wie: Wohnmedizin; Bioaerosole; Wasserhygiene; Klimawandel und Gesundheit. In der Präsentation wird u.a. vorgeschlagen, dass die GHUP und ihre thematischen Ausschüsse thematische Berührungspunkte von Hygiene und StadtGesundheit erkunden. Der neu gebildete Ausschuss Urban Health / StadtGesundheit kann diese Erkundungen unterstützen.

“Urban Health“ equals Public Health applied to urban populations., i.e. systematic societal action towards the protection, promotion and recovery of health in urban environments (cf. 26 Jan 2016) / „StadtGesundheit“ ist die Anwendung von Public Health auf urbane Populationen, also das systematische gesellschaftliche Handeln für Schutz, Förderung und Wiederherstellung der Gesundheit im urbanen Raum (siehe 26 Jan 2016).

Beyond common roots of Urban Planning and Public Health, there are several lines of evolution: (1) the globally increasing role of urban settlements, (2) health-relevant urban features, (3) ongoing urban changes, with city (and regional) planning providing opportunities for health, (4) neat concept, easily understood / Über die gemeinsamen Wurzeln von Stadtplanung und Public Health hinaus lassen sich mehrere Entstehungszusammenhänge unterscheiden: (1) die weltweit wachsende Rolle urbaner Lebenswelten, (2) gesundheitsrelevante städtische Besonderheiten, (3) stete Veränderung urbaner Umwelt, wobei Stadt- (und Umland-)planung Gestaltungschancen bieten, (4) Eingängigkeit des Begriffs.

The integrative Urban Health approach can supplement existing trends towards differentiation and specialization. A holistiv view of health-related urban structures and processes provides a useful frame for specific issues and may strengthen health in societal discourse / Der Integrationsansatz von StadtGesundheit bildet eine sinnvolle Ergänzung zu den Trends der Ausdifferenzierung und Spezialisierung. Eine Gesamtdarstellung städtischer Gesundheitsstrukturen und –prozesse bietet den Teilthemen einen sinnvollen Bezugsrahmen und kann das Thema Gesundheit im gesellschaftlichen Diskurs stärken.

Urban Health includes a range of topics which are intensively covered by hygiene and/or environmental medicine. Topics and interactions seen as relevant from these perspectives might be introduced into Urban Health discussions, facilitating exchange with relevant actors from the “world of planning” / In das Spektrum von Stadtgesundheit fallen auch zahlreiche von Hygiene und Umweltmedizin vertieft behandelte Themen. Es bietet sich an, aus dieser Sicht wichtige Themen samt ihrer Wechselbezüge verstärkt auch unter der Überschrift „StadtGesundheit“ in die Diskussion einzubringen und auf diese Weise wichtige Akteure aus der „Welt der Planung“ möglicherweise besser zu erreichen.

Project “Building bridges”: 2-year extension granted / Projekt “Brückenbau“: 2jährige Fortsetzung bewilligt [12-04]

Today, the Fritz und Hildegard Berg Foundation (http://stiftungen.stifterverband.info/t133_berg/) which is managed within the Stifterverband (www.stifterverband.org/english), granted a 2-year extension of our project “Building bridges across disciplines and sectors” / Heute bewilligte die Fritz und Hildegard Berg-Stiftung (http://stiftungen.stifterverband.info/t133_berg/), die dem Stifterverband (www.stifterverband.org) angehört, eine zweijährige Fortsetzung unseres Projektes “Disziplinärer und sektoraler Brückenbau”.
