Ecoregions / Naturräume

Ecoregions provide another way to structure the whole planetary surface. Compared to hydrogeographical classification, arbitrary decisions play a larger role for defining ecoregions / Auch durch Naturräume lässt sich die gesamte Erdoberfläche strukturieren. Im Vergleich zu hydrogeografischer Einteilung spielen bei bei der Festlegung von Naturräumen willkürliche Entscheidungen eine größere Rolle.

The German Federal Agency for Nature Conservation (BfN) provides an Ecoregion typology including, e.g., the Wadden seas and mining areas / In Deutschland stellt das Bundesamt für Naturschutz (BfN) eine Naturraumtypologie zur Verfügung, welche z.B. Wattenmeer und Bergbaulandschaft einschließt.

Based on this typology, there is a large set of Ecoregional summaries / Darauf aufbauend existiert ein umfangreicher Fundus von Naturraum- oder Landschaftssteckbriefen.
